Al Zahiyah

In the heart of Abu Dhabi, this old-school neighbourhood is full of character and authentic spirit.

The place where locals live, meet and eat

Known as the Tourist Club Area in the ‘70s for its thriving entertainment scene, Al Zahiyah today remains one of the city’s most established, down-to-earth neighbourhoods. The Al Zahiyah area – one of the oldest in Abu Dhabi – is centrally located near Al Maryah Island, the Corniche and the capital’s main business district, making it the ideal base for exploring both the city’s coastline and culture.

A walk through Heritage Park reveals breathtaking views of the traditional dhow harbour across the water in Al Mina. Meanwhile, Electra Park’s leafy paths and busy playgrounds let visitors experience the city's local, lived-in vibe.

In the mood for shopping? Abu Dhabi Mall is just around the corner, packed with international brands and unique entertainment, including the immersive escape room-style Prison Island.

On the water, the list of Al Zahiyah attractions extends beyond the sand. Speed across the marina on a jet ski, or set off for an overnight stay on a houseboat anchored just off the shore. Add to this a range of no-frills Al Zahiyah restaurants that have been around for decades – think unpretentious shawarma counters and curry houses – and you’ve got a neighbourhood that serves up a perfect slice of authentic Abu Dhabi life.
